Dean Cain was at the height of his popularity in 1993 when he joined the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman averaging 15 million viewers per episode. The series lasted four seasons and ended in 1997.

In 1998, Cain founded the production company Angry Dragon Entertainment, which produced TBS Superstation's television series Ripley, Believe It or Not! He has also appeared in several films, including The Broken Hearts Club (2000), Out of Time (2003) and Bailey's Billions (2004).

Dean Cain made a comeback to the Superman franchise in 2007, with a special role in an episode of Smallville, the immortal Dr. Curtis Knox, based on the ugly DC Comics Vandal Savage.
